The Path to Gastroenterology’s Success: Synapse at the Digestive Disease Week 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Synapse was a part of the monumental Digestive Disease Week® (DDW), the largest international gathering of physicians, researchers, and thought leaders in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, and gastrointestinal surgery, held on May 18-21, 2024, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

This year’s discussion was jointly sponsored by the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (SSAT) with the theme of “It’s All About Your Path.”

The four-day meeting showcased more than 5,600 abstracts and hundreds of lectures on the latest advances in GI research, medicine, and technology.

Exciting new research on gastric cancer

Among the highlights of DDW was the discussion of the latest advancements in gastric cancer studies, which included findings about a simple oral rinse as a noninvasive gastric cancer screening tool.

Research on oral microbiomes, Abstract 949, suggested they can act as potential biomarkers for gastric cancer risk assessment.
