Credentialing

SYNAPSE ENSURES THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF CARE FOR YOUR PHYSICIANS AND PATIENTS

Medical Credentialing is the backbone of thriving healthcare software solutions. Without it, one cannot obtain reimbursement for provided services from insurance entities, but most of all it’s vital to maintaining high safety standards in the medical field.

What is Credentialing?

This is the process of verifying the academic qualifications and clinical practice history of nurses and doctors. It involves a standardized process that allows primary source verification and committee review by health plans, hospitals, and other healthcare agencies, which takes anywhere from 90-150 days. Its history dates back to 1000 BC when medical practitioners would be banned from medical practice if three of their patients died during treatment procedures.

Today, credentialing and its importance in maintaining no medical errors and instilling confidence in patients remain true. The truth is, patients who trust their doctors follow their orders better, making them more likely to stay with the practice. Nobody wants to be treated by a physician who can’t demonstrate professionalism with irrefutable documentation.

The Credentialing Process

If you’re opening a new healthcare practice or changing states, credentialing is a must despite being a tenured and qualified healthcare professional. Remember, each state has its own healthcare credentialing requirements, but these are typically three phases of the credentialing process:

Credentialing

Also called primary source verification, your qualifications and credentials are verified. This can be done either manually by calling and emailing medical schools or automatically through credentialing software or outsourced medical credentialing service.

Privileging

This occurs when permissions are given based on your verified credentials, which shows what specific services you can perform at an institution.

Enrollment

This is the step where you can enroll for payment and billing for your services by working with insurance companies.
